INACTIVE – The program is designed for urban Indigenous youths, living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), interested in practical, experiential learning in design and construction of multi-year projects, ranging from sustainable architecture, green roofs, public parks, and conservation areas. Through partnership between the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design (DFALD) with Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), youths gain necessary skills to take part in design-build of projects currently managed by TRCA and UofT. The next two years, 6-8 youths are hired for the design and implementation of projects. The first year focuses on conceptual design of structures and landscape; the second focuses on design detailing and approvals; subsequent years are for construction and completion of individual projects.
Youths have access to DFALD design studios, fabrication labs, green roof testing lab, and library. They enjoy valuable mentoring experience from various professionals, weekly field trips to TRCA conservation sites and innovative built projects across the GTA.
